Making the Perfect Wings at Home

Wings are the perfect snack for hanging out with friends, watching sporting events, and just relaxing.

Want to make some delicious wings at home?

Here are some tips for making sure you have the best wings around.

The best wings are crisp on the outside and are moist and juicy on the inside. The sauce should be made according to personal taste, but we like it hot!

The first thing you’ll need to do is get the coating ready. Mix the flour, salt, and cayenne together and set it aside until you’re ready to fry the wings.

Next, in a large heavy-bottomed pot, pour in two inches of oil. Put the pot over medium heat and heat it until the oil is 375 degrees.

Working in batches, dredge the wings in the flour mixture and fry until lightly browned, which should take about 10 to 12 minutes per batch.

Using a slotted spoon, transfer the wings to a paper towel-lined plate. One thing to remember is to make sure the oil returns to the proper temperature before frying each batch.

In a large bowl, combine butter, lemon juice, and hot sauce. Toss each batch in the hot sauce mixture and transfer the wings to a large foil-lined baking sheet.

You’ll bake the wings at 400 degrees, turning them over occasionally, until they are crispy and have absorbed most of the sauce. This should take about 35 minutes.

When the wings come out of the oven, transfer them to a serving platter and serve with blue cheese dressing and celery sticks.

Yum!

Don’t feel like cooking? Come to Tilted Kilt inWethersfield or Tilted Kilt in Milford and eat wings, watch sports, and enjoy a cold beverage with us!

Tilted Kilt and Iron Will Fitness Team Up to Discuss Fitness

We all know that losing weight and getting in shape can be difficult – but that it can certainly be done. The Tilted Kilt girls are no exception!

Hannah and Laura, from Tilted Kilt in Milford, recently met with Trainer Dee and Whitney Quaglia – from Iron Will Fitness in Manchester – at Silver Sands Beach in Milford to discuss fitness and their fitness journeys.

What they had to say will inspire you to get off the couch and get active!

Hannah got pregnant at a young age, 21, and was skinny, but gained 50 pounds with the pregnancy. After, she said she felt horrible about herself, but started changing her eating habits and working out.

“[I started making] small changes – like doing situps while watching TV, and walking around the block with the stroller and the dogs,” she said. “Little things like that to get toned and help me feel better about myself so I could do the things I wanted to with my daughter, and now that she’s older, keep up with her.”

For Laura, she was 50 pounds overweight and just decided that she wasn’t happy. To make the change, she started eating cleanly and going to the gym frequently.

“I feel like you start with one goal, and when you accomplish that one goal, you start building more and more and you start accomplishing a lot more,” she said.

Whitney added that it’s important for women (and men) to remember is that they don’t always need to make these giant goals that are hard to achieve.

“It really does start with putting on your sneakers and getting out the door,” she said. “Getting to the gym is just a first step – getting out of your house is the first step.”

Why the Tilted Kilt Decided to Use a Drone

People keep asking us why we wanted to use a drone to deliver some of our delicious wings.

We did it because we wanted to do a feasibility study to examine whether or not it was possible to do.

Say “drone,” and many people think “CIA-operated killing machine in the skies.” On the other hand, to many people a drone is a toy. Between those extremes, there’s a wide range of practical applications for drones.

The FAA’s position is clear, however: drones are aircraft, and for commercial use an aircraft must be certified and under the control of a certified pilot. That’s even if the drone flies no higher than 400 feet, the ceiling of the uncontrolled altitude the FAA calls “Class G airspace.”

In some regions, like Washington, D.C., the FAA’s rules are even stricter: drone flights — along with hang gliding, model rocketry, and most anything outside of government, airline, and some charter operations — are prohibited within a roughly 17-mile radius of Reagan National Airport.

Real estate agents, farmers, and even companies – like Amazon – have tried to use drones and have had them shut down. Recently, the FAA clarified that delivering packages using a drone isn't legal. Amazon wasn’t specifically mentioned, but the FAA seemed to suggest that Amazon — like every other business — falls under its regulations which already prohibits the commercial use of drones.

While we had a lot of fun with the drone – and it could be the way of the future – we’ve decided that for now, we’re going to be putting it away. We’ve decided to hold off because people really want to come in to Tilted Kilt for our killer service and beautiful women.

Up, Up and Away!: Tilted Kilt, Milford 1st To Deliver Wings By Drone

Sorry, no buff guy in a cool red cape. But one better. Beautiful women in red kilts. And some seriously awesome wings. How’s that for a lead in….

Although the delivery actually happened on June 17th, the whole idea started long before then.  A while back, a certain Internet Mega business that shall remain nameless (Starts with an “A” and ends with a “zon”) said that they were considering deliveries by drone. And, we are still waiting for that one. But Sara Vause, General Manager of The Tilted Kilt in Milford wasn’t about to wait for someone else to do it. Now enter Mr. Outrageous Marketing himself. Kyle Reyes of The Silent Partner Marketing, Manchester, and Joe Papa of MultiRotor Pilot Magazine. Their task was to pull this delivery off.

So, here is that task. Take a TWO POUND order of wings, and Go-Pro camera, and attach it to a quad-copter. Sounds easy right? Wrong. First off, the load has to have the weight properly distributed, and secured. Throw in wind, possible shifting of weight and distance. Not so easy after all.

Want to see how it went? Check out CT Out and About for the whole story.

Get to Know the Tilted Kilt Pub & Eatery

While the Tilted Kilt concept has its roots deep in the rousing tradition of Scottish, Irish and English pubs, it actually first came to life in America’s own sin city, Las Vegas.

The brainchild of successful restaurateur Mark DiMartino, Tilted Kilt was conceived to be a contemporary, Celtic-themed sports Pub staffed with beautiful servers in plaid kilts and matching plaid bras.

The winning concept was an instant success and gained national and global exposure because of its Las Vegas location. Although Tilted Kilt wasn’t originally created to be a franchise, it wasn’t long before it caught the eye of Ron Lynch, an experienced and savvy restaurant and franchise developer.

Both parties agreed that Tilted Kilt had a broad, far-reaching appeal with a very real chance to gain success and a loyal following in multiple regions.

In moving forward, their first step was to relocate the Tilted Kilt headquarters to Tempe, Arizona, where it is still based today.

Now, with locations far and wide across the country and many more scheduled to open, Tilted Kilt Pub & Eatery continues to lift spirits and joyously reaffirm that “A Cold Beer Never Looked So Good.”

There are two great locations in Connecticut, one in Wethersfield and one in Milford
